tram series
Amsterdam, 2001
In 2001 I moved to Amsterdam. The move to Europe entailed a period of adjustment and reflection around my work in performance and public space, during which I began painting again. This series records a fascination with trams in the city, viewed at night, lit from the interior.
While working on this series, the performance, and later video 'Trams taken and trams missed' was developed. This project involved a period of development on both a physical and emotional level, during which painting offered a useful point of refuge.
I have since come to view painting as a form of 'gardening', which permits a larger idea to establish a narrative and visual universe.
